Description

Ignis shook in the palm of His hand and begged while he was burned by His holy skin:
"Oh Lord, I know I have done wrong. I was blinded by Your knowledge and cowardly sought out
ignorance, but now that I see the Truth, I beg for your forgiveness."

"Ignis, what of thy family?" The Lord asked him.

"Should it please You, Lord, You may take my life, but I beg You to spare theirs, for they know not what it is they do."

"You delicate sheep of the one I once knew, how is it that you make no questions? How is it that you grovel for restrictions and blind faith?" The Lord placed Ignis upon the floor of an unknown place. It was of unimaginable heat and covered in a golden ocean that scratched and scorched Ignis' bare feet. His family was not with him.

"Lord, where have you taken me?" And suddenly Ignis fell to his knees in prayer once again and asked for forgiveness, for he only knew of his intolerable god who prosecuted those who required answers. There was sand about his knees and face, and the Lord was disgusted.

"Ignis," He bellowed out. "Thou art pathetic. Doth thou have dignity? Dost thy bosom carry no fire, but strings? Shall I pull you yonder till thy skin be dragged back, and thy bones left to see the sun?"

Yet Ignis grovelled and cried, for he only knew of fear.

"Ignis, thou shalt rise to thy soles, lest thou shalt be abandoned in this land!"

Ignis rose to his feet slowly and wept in His presence, becoming once more an infant.

"Thou art truly a child, as the other says. Wipe the sand from thine clothe and hark."
Ignis did not know what the Lord spoke of, for he had never known sand, and so the Lord taught him.
In the span of seven days, the names for sand, cactus, scorpion, beetle, coyote, and vulture were given to Ignis, and on the seventh day, Ignis was given the names for Oasis and Mirage.

While Ignis was guided by His wisdom, a great body of water, surrounded by palm trees and fruit, appeared before him. In his joy and hunger, Ignis ran forth and prepared to bath in the cool waters before him, but as he approached, the splendours that promised life disappeared.

"My Lord," Ignis cried out. "Why have you taken this bounty away from me? Why do you curse me so?"

As Ignis collapsed, unable to bear the weight of his emptiness, the Lord whispered to him.
"Ignis, as with all things of this world, beauty is seen from a distance. All things disappear whence thou hath looked closer. This curse, Ignis, is known as a Mirage, and occurs in the loneliest and most unbearable places."

The heat and sand had dried Ignis mouth, and he was unable to speak, but the Lord knew his words.
"Thou hath suffered much, Ignis, but do not fear, for you shall not die. Those who have known pain, shall know true happiness."
The Lord raised His mighty hand before him and brought forth the image from Ignis' mirage to surround them. Where Ignis had laid his head, grass and flowers grew from the hot sand, palm trees surrounded him and cried out fresh water from their leaves, which pooled in the centre of the Lord's miracle.

"This miracle, Ignis, is known as an Oasis, and can only appear in the loneliest and most unbearable places. If thy people were smart, and looked closely, they should always be saved from despair."
